LAFAYETTE – Sophomore Karleen Bedre erupted for a pair of goals and an assist in an 8:50-span to break out of a scoreless drought and the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Women’s Soccer team blanked ULM, 3-0, in a Sun Belt Conference match on Sunday at the Ragin’ Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility.

Gwen Mummert scored her first goal of the season while Una Einarsdottir and freshman Katelyn Stamps each added an assist as Louisiana (3-3-0, 1-2-0 Sun Belt) won its third straight match against ULM (0-3-0, 0-2-0 Sun Belt) and improved to 9-0-1 all-time against the Warhawks at home.

The freshman tandem of Lauryn Starwood and Carly Dean pitched a shutout in goal for the Ragin’ Cajuns, who held a 16-4 advantage in shot attempts, including a 10-1 cushion in the first half en route to a 2-0 lead at the break.

Louisiana broke a scoreless contest in the 38th minute of the match as Bedre’s well-placed corner kick from the near side went deep into the ULM box and Mummert was able to score her first goal of the season on a header past ULM goalkeeper Hailey Hillock.

That helped the Ragin’ Cajuns find their rhythm offensively as they maintained pressure and kept the ball on ULM’s side of the field. Just over three minutes later, Stamps sent in a pass into the ULM box and Bedre was able to blast a shot into the lower right corner of the goal for her first goal of the season.

Bedre, who led Louisiana in both goals scored and points last season as a freshman, added her second goal less than a minute into the second half as she flicked in Einardottir’s crossing pass from the right side past Hillock for a 3-0 advantage.

Louisiana, which snapped a three-match losing streak, was able to go deep into its bench with seven true freshmen playing at least 40 minutes. Starwood stopped an early attempt by ULM’s Juliette Reitsma in the third minute for her lone save of the afternoon before being replaced by Dean in the 81st minute.

Louisiana will continue its seven-match home stand with a pair of matches beginning on Friday. The Ragin’ Cajuns will host in-state foe Louisiana Tech in a 7 p.m. contest on Friday before resuming Sun Belt Conference play on Sunday against Texas State at 1 p.m.

The Ragin’ Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility will operate at a significantly reduced capacity for the 2020 season (unless state policy changes during the season). This will allow for fans and University students to be accommodated this season.

Should disruptions or modifications to the 2020 season occur due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Athletics will quickly communicate the adjustments through its social media channels and RaginCajuns.com. Additionally, the department will communicate any changes to specific entry and attendance protocols for home matches.
