Basketball: St. James stays unbeaten in district play

In girls action Tuesday night, St. James remained unbeaten in district play.

Playing on the road, the Wildcats had to go overtime to overcome Donaldsonville 63-57 in a battle of District 10-3A unbeatens.

The game was close throughout. The Tigers held a 16-15 lead after one quarter and had a huge second quarter, outscoring St. James 19-5 to take a solid 35-20 halftime lead. The Wildcats began their comeback in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 40-35 going to the fourth quarter. St. James outscored Donaldsonville 9-4 in the final quarter to force overtime.

Charity Cooper led St. James (13-7, 4-0) with 22 points, Lauryn Scott had 20 and Raveon Fletcher added 19 points. The win was the fourth straight for St. James, who was 18th in the most recent LHSAA Class 3A power rankings while Donaldsonville was 22nd.

The Wildcats face a showdown with unbeaten and favorite Ursuline this evening at 5 p.m. for the district lead. Donaldsonville (10-13, 2-1) also returns to 10-3A action Thursday, hosting Academy of The Sacred Heart of New Orleans at 5:30 p.m.
