Basketball: Chalmette, Rummel, Dominican among winners Tuesday

Area Prep Basketball Report for Wednesday, Nov. 30

Chalmette got off to a rough start to the season but now the Owls have won two straight games after winning 58-49 at Sarah T. Reed Tuesday night.

It was an even game for a half with Sarah Reed leading 14-13 after one quarter and it was tied 25-25 by halftime. The Owls outscored the Olympians 12-8 in the third quarter and 21-16 in the final frame.

Rayon Russell led Chalmette with 15 points, Roger Ford had 14 points and two steals and Jaden Celestine scored 13 points, pulled down 13 rebounds and had three assists.

Archbishop Rummel defeated Riverdale 68-52 at home.

The Raiders took control early, jumping out to a 15-8 lead after one quarter and led 32-20 at halftime. The Rebels fought back to cut the deficit to 49-42 heading to the fourth quarter.

Senior Chase Marino topped Rummel with 24 points, including 10 of 15 at the free throw line. Marino added six steals with two assists and two rebounds. Junior Chance Joseph had 10 points, four steals, three rebounds and a block. Sophomore Jamard Jones had eight points, five rebounds and two steals.

Chalmette (2-5) will host Tara Friday at 6:30 p.m. while Sarah T. Reed (4-4) will host Capitol Friday at 6 p.m.

Rummel (3-3) will host East Iberville tonight at 7 p.m.

The Rebels (1-4) will host St. Martin’s Episcopal Friday at 6:15 p.m.

In girls play, Dominican won at Archbishop Hannan 61-36 to remain unbeaten.

Senior Sophia Martin led Dominican with 19 points, senior Bailey Johnson had 17 points and senior Katherine Ellis finished with 10 points.

Dominican (5-0) will play at Academy of Our Lady next Tuesday at 5 p.m. The Hawks (1-3) will host St. Helena Friday at 6 p.m.
