Area Prep Basketball Report for Sunday, Jan. 23

It has always been difficult, make that very difficult to win in boys basketball at Riverside Academy.

In the midst of a rebuilding season under a promising new coach in Reserve, this year has been a bit of an exception to that rule.

Riverdale went to Riverside and won 62-55 Saturday in a battle of Rebels.

Ke’Vonte Hutchinson led Riverdale with 17 points while Roland Bullard III had a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds and added three steals. Jarrell Arline added 13 points and three assists and Monroe Gardner added nine points, nine rebounds and five steals.

Riverdale (7-6) returns to action Wednesday night at Kenner Discovery while Riverside (3-18), which has now dropped 12 straight, will host Tara Tuesday at 6 p.m.

In girls action, Ponchatoula continued to play well, hammering Southern Lab 95-54 in Baton Rouge.

Tulane signee Jaylee Womack was outstanding, as always, scoring 32 points, including 28 in the second half while junior Taylor Jackson was superb, scoring 30 points and pulling down 13 rebounds.

The Green Wave (23-2), third in the most recent LHSAA Division I power rankings behind Walker and Parkway, have won eight straight and return to action Tuesday, hosting Hammond at 6 p.m.
