Basketball: Ridge View holds off Archbishop Shaw at Sugar Bowl tourney

Area Prep Basketball Report for Friday, Jan. 7

WESTWEGO – The win streak is over for Archbishop Shaw.

The Eagles battled hard against much larger Ridge View, South Carolina but the Blazers held off Shaw 49-46 in the opening round of the Boys Platinum Bracket of the 11th Annual Allstate Sugar Bowl National Prep Classic at the Alario Center.

Ridge View jumped out to a 15-8 lead after one quarter and built a double-figure lead before the Eagles fought back to cut the deficit to 24-20 at halftime. It was 39-35 going to the final quarter.

Xavier Moultrie had 12 points while Gregory Jackson finished with 11 points for Ridge View.

Rodney Phillips and Kam Johnson each scored 17 points to lead the Eagles.

Ridge View (6-8) advances to the quarterfinals Friday to face Florida State University High School at 7 p.m. FSU handled Karr 71-45.

Shaw (14-3) saw its 12-game win streak end. The Eagles will face Karr Friday in the consolation bracket.
