In a showdown of two of the state’s top teams, Madison Prep invades Reserve to take on Riverside. The matchup is set for Thursday evening at 7:15 p.m.

The Chargers are the second-ranked team in the latest LHSAA power rankings in Class 3A while the Rebels are easily the top-ranked team in the latest Division III power rankings.

The Rebels (28-2) are coming off of an impressive pair of one-sided wins over very good teams in University High and Karr. (18-4)

The Rebels outlasted the Chargers 91-82 in double overtime on Dec. 16 in the championship game of the Madison Prep Classic.

Alabama signee Jared Butler pumped in 44 points to lead the Rebels in the victory over Madison Prep while UL-Lafayette signee Kobe Julien scored 33 points for the Chargers.

In girls action, two traditional powers square off in Slidell as Warren Easton takes on Salmen at 6 p.m. in a non-district contest.

The Eagles (18-8) are red hot, winners of 10 straight games. The Spartans (21-7) have won eight of their last 10 games.

Salmen played for the Class 4A championship a year ago, falling to Ellender in the championship game. In 2015, Salmen beat Warren Easton in the semifinals before winning the state championship. The Spartans downed the Eagles 56-48 in the 2014 championship game. The Spartans also won the state title in 2013 and played for the title in 2012.
