It was a great season for Bonnabel last season in boys basketball.

The Bruins reached the Class 5A state championship game but the ending was disappointing with a 57-48 loss to district rival Landry-Walker.

With a younger but still talented team, the Bruins are back in force this season.

That was on full display Friday evening as the Bruins blasted Warren Easton 90-62 at the Grace King Tournament in Metairie, handing the Eagles their first loss. The win came after Bonnabel opened the tournament with a 61-46 win over Destrehan Thursday afternoon.

Senior T.J. Collins is back from a year ago and he is one of the best guards in south Louisiana. Collins pumped in 27 points while junior Rodney Munson scored 24 points and sophomore Nathaniel Paul added 11 points for Bonnabel (2-0).

While Joe Thompson is now at South Alabama, Bonnabel is still a force to be reckoned with in Class 5A this season.

The Bruins will next face defending Class C state champion Crescent City on the road Thursday at 7:30 p.m. while the Eagles (2-1) travel to face St. Augustine next Thursday.
