Basketball powers Ursuline, John Curtis win, set for showdown at Ursuline Tourney
In 2016, a healthy Ursuline team captured the Class 4A state championship. A year ago, a healthy John Curtis squad won the Division I state championship.
The two powers are both healthy now and will collide Wednesday morning at 10:45 a.m. at the Ursuline Tournament.
The Lions remained unbeaten with a 58-41 win over Landry-Walker Tuesday, its second win in the tournament.
Ursuline led 15-12 after the first quarter and established control in the second quarter, outscoring Landry-Walker 18-6 to take a 33-18 halftime lead. It was 50-31 after three quarters.
Kennedi Jackson and Giordin Johnson led the way for Ursuline (4-0) with 16 points each while Florida State signee Kourtney Weber added 14 points. Lynell Washington was a load for the Chargin’ Buccaneers, pumping in 29 points to keep her team in the game.
John Curtis (3-0) remained unbeaten with a convincing 64-27 win over Rayville after the Patriots handled Salmen 64-39 on Monday. The Patriots are led by Tulane signee Dynah Jones, along with junior Salma Bates and Jerkaila Jordan.
Ursuline will also play Destrehan at 1:15 p.m. today while Landry-Walker takes on Mount Carmel at noon.
