Basketball: Newman rolls over Slidell
Area Prep Basketball Report for Sunday, Nov. 19
Two-time defending state champion Newman rolled at home over Slidell 76-40 Saturday, handing the Tigers their first loss.
Todd Jones and Jackson Williams each scored 22 points for the Greenies. Jones, a senior, produced a double-double, pulling down 11 rebounds while Williams, a sophomore, was deadly from distance, sinking 6-of-9 attempts from 3-point range. Junior Christopher Birden added 13 points, four rebounds and three blocks. Sophomore Sebastian Thrower scored seven points with nine assists and three rebounds.
Sophomore Jerry Birdlow topped the Tigers with 10 points and five rebounds while senior Jaden Hookfin had eight points and five rebounds.
Newman (3-0) will play out-of-town opponents in tournament play next week.
Slidell (3-1) will next play Monday at Archbishop Rummel.
