Basketball: Newman handles Warren Easton
A good season continued Saturday for Newman.
The Greenies extended their win streak to 15 games with a solid 67-54 victory over Warren Easton at Newman Saturday evening.
Newman took control from the start, bolting out to a 22-8 lead after one quarter and kept that working margin throughout. The Greenies led 34-27 at halftime and 53-41 after three quarters.
Riley Demps and Javon Ruffin led the way with 19 points each for Newman (18-2) while J.P. Butch added 17 points. Newman sank 10 shots from 3-point range. Lance Madison topped Warren Easton (14-9) with 16 points while Vernon Simms had 11 points.
The win avenged a 52-51 loss to the Eagles in the Lusher Tournament on Nov. 21.
