Basketball: Mount Carmel stays hot with win over South Terrebonne

Coming off of a solid showing in the 10th Annual Allstate Sugar Bowl Classic where it reached the semifinals, Mount Carmel Academy continued to show that it will be a factor in Division I this season.

On Monday evening, the Cubs handled South Terrebonne 38-16 at home.

Taylor Wilkin finished with 12 points and eight steals, Taylor Haggard had seven points and five steals and Miranda Strassel finished with seven assists for MCA.

The Cubs (15-4) have now won 10 of their last 11 games and will open district play Friday at rival Dominican at 6 p.m. in what will be a big game.

Dominican downed Haynes Academy 56-46 Monday to improve to 15-5.

Mount Carmel is second while Dominican is third in the latest Division I power rankings to start the New Year. District 9-5A rival and three-time defending Division I state champion John Curtis Christian is first.
