Basketball: McMain downs Universal Academy in TexLou Christmas Showcase

Area Prep Basketball Report for Tuesday, Dec. 28

As the defending state champion, Eleanor McMain is poised to make a serious run at a second consecutive state title.

The Mustangs are locked and loaded with talent and are well coached.

Playing a challenging schedule, McMain is flourishing again this season.

The Mustangs opened play in the TexLou Christmas Showcase in Missouri City, Texas with a 58-55 victory over Universal Academy (TX).

Corey Chest Jr. led the way with 14 points, 13 rebounds and three steals. Christian Pichon Jr. scored 12 points and had four rebounds and Alex Hammond finished with 11 points, six rebounds and four assists.

Ranked first in the most recent Class 4A power rankings, McMain is now 13-2 on the season and remains the team to beat in a stacked class with Carver, Peabody, Landry, Karr and Lakeshore, among others.
