Area Prep Basketball Report for Tuesday, Feb. 4

It has not been a stellar season for Jesuit on the hardwood.

Chris Jennings has his team playing better as the regular season begins to wind down.

The Blue Jays made the trip to Phoenix and won 50-35 Monday evening for their second straight victory.

Jesuit was never threatened, taking control early, grabbing a 15-8 lead after one quarter and the Blue Jays increased the lead to 28-13 by halftime. It was 37-21 after three quarters.

Jack Lo led Jesuit with 13 points while Luke Laforge pulled down 11 rebounds.

The Blue Jays (12-11) return to District 9-5A action Friday night, hosting rival Holy Cross at 7 p.m. while Phoenix (9-13) returns to action tonight at Holden at 7 p.m. in a non-district contest.

In girls action, it was senior night in River Ridge and three-time defending Division I state champion John Curtis Christian celebrated in grand fashion.

The Lady Patriots dominated from start to finish in a 54-30 victory over Mount Carmel Academy in District 9-5A play.

The story was Jerkaila Jordan.

The Tulane signee reached the 1,000 point plateau for her brilliant career as Curtis led from start to finish.

The victory gave John Curtis total control of the district as the Lady Patriots beat the Cubs for the second time and posted their ninth win overall.

John Curtis (21-3, 5-0) return to district play Thursday at Archbishop Chapelle at 5 p.m. while Mount Carmel (21-7, 4-2) is finished with district play. The Cubs conclude their regular season next Monday at home against University High.

John Ehret easily handled East Jefferson 66-21.

Junior Kristen Conner led Ehret with 15 points, 7 rebounds and five steals, freshman Keaera Holmes had 13 points and three steals and freshman Alyssa Levassuer finished with 11 points.

The Lady Patriots (16-8, 3-1) return to district play Thursday at West Jefferson at 5 p.m. while the Warriors (3-15, 2-3) step out of district to play at Destrehan Wednesday at 7 p.m.

South Plaquemines easily handled McGehee 57-16 in District 11-2A action.

The Hurricanes led 16-3 after one quarter and 35-8 at halftime. South Plaquemines shutout McGehee in the third quarter to lead 48-8.

Eighth-grader Jade Parker led South Plaquemines with 13 points, four assists and four steals while junior Davion Phillips had 12 points and five rebounds.

South Plaquemines (11-8, 5-1) returns to district play Thursday at Newman at 5 p.m. while the Hawks (5-8, 2-3) will host Einstein Charter Thursday at 6 p.m.
