Area Prep Basketball Report for Saturday, Feb. 5

With a first year coach in alumnus Everett Armand at the helm, John Ehret has quickly turned the corner to becoming a good program once again in boys basketball.

The Patriots outscored Grace King 91-86 Friday night in Metairie for their sixth straight win to remain unbeaten in District 8-5A play.

Junior Montel Robinson was tremendous, scoring 27 points with 13 rebounds and four steals. Super freshmen Eddie McIntyre IV and Charlie Triggs Jr. were outstanding as well. McIntyre had 21 points, four assists and two steals while Triggs finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Joshua Grabert contributed 11 points, including making 3-of-4 shots from 3-point range.

The Patriots (14-8, 3-0) guaranteed themselves of a winning season for the first time since the 2014-15 season. Both teams are back in district play next Tuesday night with John Ehret playing at Riverdale while the Fighting Irish (7-18, 0-3) will travel to West Jefferson.

Two other boys teams desperately in search of a win took the floor as well.

In the end, the home teams prevailed.

Holy Cross dominated the second overtime period in a 50-40 double overtime victory at home over Archbishop Rummel on Alumni Night to complete a District 9-5A sweep of the Raiders.

The Tigers defeated Rummel 45-37 in Metairie back on Jan. 11.

Lionel Nelson led Holy Cross with 14 points while Cash Pichon finished with 10 points for the Tigers.

Holy Cross (12-14, 2-6) hosts Brother Martin while Rummel (8-16, 1-8) dropped its fifth straight game and will host John Curtis Christian.

In District 6-5A at Hammond, the Tornadoes held off Slidell 54-49.

Hammond led 10-9 after one quarter and it was 22-19 at halftime. It was 38-32 going to the final quarter.

Junior Jahiem Johnson led Hammond with 19 points while senior Devin Daniels had 18 points.

Both teams return to district play next Tuesday night. Hammond (16-11, 4-6) travels to Covington while Slidell (14-14, 2-8) lost its fifth straight game and the Tigers will host Ponchatoula.
