Basketball: Holy Cross, St. Paul boys win; Mount Carmel beats St. Martin’s

Area Prep Basketball Report for Wednesday, Dec. 8

Holy Cross snapped a 4-game losing streak with a solid 69-49 home victory Tuesday night over Riverdale.

The Tigers jumped out quickly to take a 22-5 lead after one quarter and led 39-17 by halftime. It was 58-29 after three quarters.

Devin Harris led Holy Cross with 18 points while Savoi Hebert finished with 12 points.

Holy Cross (3-4) returns to action Saturday, hosting Livingston Collegiate at 4 p.m. Riverdale (1-4) plays at Grace King Friday at 6 p.m.

St. Paul’s whipped East Jefferson 81-48.

Andrew Zibilich shot the lights out for the Wolves, sinking 8-of-10 from 3-point range and finishing with 26 points. Zach Fenn contributed 18 points and Cade Colombo chipped in with 12 points for St. Paul’s. Arthur Oliver led the Warriors with 17 points while Jeff Landry had 16 points for East Jefferson.

St. Paul’s (7-2) will host Tara Saturday at 4 p.m. while East Jefferson (7-5) will travel to Archbishop Shaw Saturday at 3 p.m.

In girls action, Mount Carmel Academy won at St. Martin’s Episcopal 41-32.

Senior Taylor Haggard had a double-double to lead the way with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Bailey Schex had nine points and freshman Lauren Fowler chipped in with eight points.

Mount Carmel (6-3) will break for mid-term exams and return to action on Dec. 18 at Archbishop Hannan. The Saints fell to 3-1 with the defeat.
