Basketball: Hammond and East Jeff boys win, Mandeville girls victorious Thursday

Area Prep Basketball Report for Friday, Dec. 3

In boys action Thursday, Hammond won at Livingston Collegiate 79-59.

The Tornadoes took an 18-10 lead after one quarter before opening up a 43-25 lead by halftime. It was 67-40 going to the final quarter.

Junior Demarion Milton led the way with 18 points, junior Jaheim Johnson had 17 points, senior Devin Daniels had 14 points and eight blocks and senior Devan Guillory added 10 points.

East Jefferson continued its winning ways at the Sophie B. Wright Tournament with a 79-65 win over John F. Kennedy.

In what was a close game through three quarters, the Warriors broke it open in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Cougars 31-17 to pull away for the win.

The game was tied 15-15 after one quarter and the Cougars led 30-29 at halftime. The game was tied 48-48 going to the final quarter.

Senior Jeff Landry pumped in 29 points and pulled down 13 rebounds while senior Arthur Oliver had 27 points, 11 assists, five rebounds and five steals for the Warriors. Freshman Eugene Stevenson had 10 points and six rebounds.

The Warriors (7-3) have won three straight games and face Landry tonight at 8:45.

In girls action, it was an overtime thriller as Mandeville prevailed 42-38 over University High at the Brusly Tournament to improve to 3-3 on the season.

Sophomores Saleigh Berry had 11 points and Hannah Benoit led the way for the Lady Skippers with 11 points and eight points, respectively. Berry added three assists, three rebounds and two steals. Benoit added five rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals.
