Area Prep Basketball Report for Sunday, Jan. 31

After going to the Final Four in Class 5A last season, Hahnville figured to have an outstanding team this season.

That has certainly been the case but a rude interruption by COVID-19 left the Tigers idle for three weeks.

Having not played in 21 days, Hahnville took the floor Saturday at home against Thibodaux in District 7-5A and showed no rust or ill effects from dealing with the illness issue.

Hahnville handled Thibodaux 82-48.

The host Tigers took control early, leading 18-8 after one quarter and 42-20 by halftime. It was 63-35 going to the fourth quarter.

Claudell Harris Jr. was superb for Hahnville, scoring 29 points while Koi Smith had 17 points and Cameron Lumar scored 14 points.

Ranked third in the LHSAA Class 5A power rankings, the Tigers (13-3, 2-1) host East St. John Tuesday night in a showdown for first place in league play. The Wildcats beat the Tigers 70-66 on Jan. 8.

Thibodaux (6-9, 1-2) will host Terrebonne on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Playing its second game in two nights, Carver survived a scare before downing Port Allen 54-50.

Willie Anderson led the Rams with 15 points and five rebounds, Solomon Washington scored 11 points and pulled down 12 rebounds and J. Hicks and Fred Price each scored nine points.

Carver (18-1) is the top-ranked team in the LHSAA Division IV power rankings.

Carver travels to Livingston Collegiate Monday at 6 p.m. while Port Allen (10-7) will host Istrouma Wednesday at 6 p.m.
