Basketball: East Jefferson handles Riverdale, Lakeshore downs Salmen

Area Prep Basketball Report for Thursday, Jan. 28

A red hot team that no one wants to see early in the Class 5A playoffs is East Jefferson.

The Warriors continued their hot streak, whipping Riverdale 85-60 at home in District 8-5A action Wednesday night.

Molik Reese topped East Jefferson with 19 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Chris Flippin was again a force inside, scoring 16 points, pulling down 16 rebounds and blocking two shots. Jeffery Landry had 11 points and eight rebounds, K.J. Johnson finished with 10 points and four rebounds and Arthur Oliver had seven points, 10 assists and three steals for the Warriors.

Juan Hall led Riverdale with 16 points, Shawn Lawrence scored 13 and Darren Labit had 12 points for the Rebels.

The win was the seventh straight for East Jefferson, currently just 18th in the 5A power rankings.

The Warriors (15-6, 1-0) will host rival Bonnabel in a district showdown Friday night at 6:30 p.m. East Jefferson won at Bonnabel 60-51 on Jan. 12 in a game seen live at CrescentCitySports.com.

Riverdale (5-5, 0-1) returns to district play Friday as well, hosting Grace King at 7 p.m.

In District 9-4A, Lakeshore went to Salmen and downed the Spartans 74-60.

The Titans controlled the first half, taking an 18-11 lead after one quarter and expanded the lead to 38-24 by halftime and Lakeshore would maintain that margin by game’s end. It was 52-38 going to the final quarter.

Bryce Bickham led the Titans with 18 points, Cole Dietrich had 14 points and Richard Carter finished with 13 points for Lakeshore.

Robert Johns led the Spartans with 21 points, Amir Giles scored 17 and Jayden Hardison had 11 points for Salmen.

Lakeshore is 12th while Salmen is 14th in the current LHSAA Class 4A power rankings.

Lakeshore (17-2, 2-0) returns to district play Friday night at home against Franklinton at 7 p.m. Salmen (6-6, 0-1) also returns to district play Friday, traveling to Pearl River at 6 p.m.
