Basketball: St. Paul’s, Country Day boys; Ponchatoula girls roll to big wins

Area Prep Basketball Report for Saturday, Jan. 28

In District 6-5A, St. Paul’s remained unbeaten with a 69-55 win across town at Covington Friday night.

The Wolves took a 19-13 lead after one quarter and led 39-28 at halftime. It was 56-43 going to the fourth quarter.

Senior Reece Seicshnaydre was a force for St. Paul’s with 28 points, 13 rebounds and four assists while junior Michael Sarver had 16 points, including a trio of 3-pointers.

St. Paul’s (18-6, 3-0) will host Northshore while the Lions (12-11, 1-2) will travel to Hammond with both games Tuesday night.

Country Day handled De La Salle 56-37 at home Friday.

Maddox Moss and Andrew Nelson each scored 14 points for the Cajuns while Jordan Trahan added 13 points.

Country Day (20-6) will host McDonogh 35 next Tuesday.

De La Salle (8-9) will play at The Willow School next Tuesday.

In girls action, Ponchatoula went on the road and handled Mandeville 70-45 to stay unbeaten in District 6-5A.

The game was close early with Ponchatoula taking a 20-18 lead after one quarter but the Green Wave dominated the second quarter to take a 40-23 halftime lead. Ponchatoula expanded the lead to 60-29 heading to the final quarter.

Taylor Jackson stole the show, pumping in 30 points for the Green Wave. Amaya Gervais added 13 points, Alyssa Hillard had 12 points and Libby Thompson finished with 11 points.

Alanna Benoit led Mandeville with 14 points, Saleigh Berry had 12 points and Sophie Cogliati had 11 points.

Ponchatoula (18-9, 3-0) will host Slidell at 6 p.m. next Tuesday.

Mandeville (18-6, 1-2) will travel to Fontainebleau Tuesday at 6 p.m.
