Basketball: Chalmette thumps M L King Charter, Newnan-De La Salle rescheduled for tonight on CCS

Area Prep Basketball Report for Tuesday, Feb. 16

While many games scheduled for Monday were canceled due to the frigid weather and road conditions, Chalmette was able to get in its home game with M.L. King Charter.

The Owls bounced back from a loss to Bonnabel with a convincing 68-40 victory over M.L. King Charter Monday.

The game was close for a half, tied 14-14 after one quarter with the Owls leading 27-25 at the half. Chalmette dominated the second half, outscoring the Jaguars 41-15. Chalmette outscored M.L. King Charter 26-13 in the third quarter to take a 53-38 lead before winning the final quarter 15-2.

Chalmette shot the lights out, making 24-of-39 field goal attempts (62%) while holding M.L. King Charter to 38 percent shooting (14-of-37).

Frank Ceaser scored 22 points, hitting 6-of-8 shots from the field, including 2-of-5 from 3-point range and he was 8-of-13 from the free throw line. Ceaser had five rebounds and two assists.

Jahlil Humble had a double-double, scoring 15 points, making 7-of-11 from the field with 14 rebounds. Humble added three assists. Kemalice Anderson scored 14 points, including a pair of 3-pointers and dished out nine assists while pulling down seven rebounds.

Chalmette (16-11), ranked 27th in the most recent LHSAA Class 5A power rankings, will conclude its regular season Friday at Riverdale in a District 8-5A contest. M.L. King Charter, on the outside looking in for the playoffs at No. 34, finished its regular season 9-15.

Among the games to be played Tuesday that was postponed from Monday, it is the battle of the uptown neighbors as De La Salle (10-6) hosts Newman (16-6) at 6 p.m. You can watch it live and via replay at CrescentCitySports.com.

The Greenies are No. 1 in the most recent LHSAA Division III power rankings while the Cavaliers are sixth in the Division II power rankings.
