Basketball: Chalmette boys, South Plaquemines girls with scores Monday victories; Newman Tourney begins

Area Prep Basketball Report for Tuesday, Dec. 10

Make it six in a row for Chalmette.

The Owls went to Destrehan and downed the Wildcats 71-62 Monday.

Chalmette jumped out quickly with a big first quarter to take a 27-17 lead and led
43-28 at halftime. It was 53-41 going to the final quarter and Destrehan could never get close enough to threaten the Owls.

Kemalice Anderson led Chalmette (7-1) with 20 points and five assists and four steals while Frank Ceaser had 18 points. Chandler Henburg had 15 points and seven rebounds and Patrick Allen contributed 11 for the Owls.

Chalmette returns to action Dec. 18 at Holy Cross while Destrehan (0-9) plays in the H.L. Bourgeois tournament this weekend.

In girls action, South Plaquemines won 49-21 over Sophie B. Wright at home.

The Hurricanes held a slim 8-6 lead after one quarter and led 19-12 by halftime. South Plaquemines blew the game open in the third quarter, outscoring the Warriors 21-3 to lead 40-15 going to the final frame.

Sophomore Ty’vion Riley led South Plaquemines with 17 points, 13 rebounds and two steals while eighth-grader Jade Parker had 12 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals.

South Plaquemines (2-2) returns to action Thursday at Riverside Academy at 5 p.m. while Sophie B. Wright (0-4) will host Carver next Monday at 6 p.m.

The Newman Invitational gets underway today with four games.

Hahnville takes on East Jefferson at 3:30 p.m., Ellender battles UMS-Wright at 5 p.m., Lusher Charter battles host Newman at 6:30 p.m. and Karr faces David Thibodaux at 8 p.m.
