Basketball: Carver, Slidell win in tournaments Monday

In 2020, the Carver Rams reached the Class 4A semifinals in Lake Charles, falling to Breaux Bridge.
A year later, the Rams are even better and a real threat to win a state title.
At the Hahnville Tournament Monday, Carver fought off Plaquemine 48-43 to improve to 3-0 on the young season.
Junior Dorian Finister led the way with 15 points, five rebounds and three steals while junior Deion Ware had eight points, three assists and three rebounds for the Rams. Senior Fred Price added six points. Junior Solomon Washington scored four points but added 11 rebounds, four blocks, three steals and two assists.
Plaquemine fell to 1-1 with the defeat.
Carver resumes play in the tournament at 6:20 this evening against Sophie B. Wright.
Slidell also remained unbeaten.
The Tigers defeated West Jefferson 64-57 in the Northshore Tournament.
Senior Cooper Rachow pumped in 26 points with seven points and two assists, senior Lorenzo Caldwell scored 13 points with four rebounds, two assists and two steals and juniors Micah Willis and Tyler McGee each had 10 points. Willis had five rebounds and two assists. McGee added eight assists, two rebounds and a steal.
Now 4-0, Slidell plays McMain tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the Northshore Tournament. The Buccaneers fell to 2-2 with the defeat.
