Basketball: Carver, Mandeville among Monday winners
Area Prep Basketball Report for Tuesday, Jan. 25
Carver continued to roll Monday night, whipping John F. Kennedy 68-42 in a District 11-4A contest.
Seniors Dorian Finister and Solomon Washington each scored 11 points to lead the Rams. Washington added 10 rebounds while Finister added four rebounds.
Carver (20-5, 2-0) has won five straight and will travel to always tough Scotlandville tonight at 7 p.m. The Cougars (11-13, 0-2) have another difficult assignment, hosting defending Class 4A state champion McMain Thursday at 7 p.m. in a District 11-4A contest.
In a non-district contest Monday night, Mandeville went on the road and edged St. Thomas Aquinas 62-60.
The Falcons led 14-12 after one quarter and led 28-26 at halftime. The Skippers took a 46-42 lead going to the fourth quarter.
Clayton State commit Bryce Weinmunson was brilliant, scoring 31 points while Tanner Mahoney finished with 10 points. LSU football signee Landon Ibieta finished with seven points.
Mandeville (17-8) returns to District 6-5A action tonight, hosting Covington at 7 p.m. St. Thomas Aquinas (13-9) returns to District 10-2A action Friday at French Settlement at 7 p.m.
