Basketball: Carver and East Jeff boys, Easton and PJP girls win Monday

rea Prep Basketball Report for Tuesday, Jan. 19

The spotless season continues for Carver.

The Rams remained unbeaten with a 47-35 win over New Iberia in the annual Martin Luther King Classic.

Junior Solomon Washington led the way for the Rams with 14 points while sophomore Jaylon Hicks had 10 points, sophomore Deion Ware had nine and junior Dorian Finister had eight points.

Jaterrius Fuselier topped the Yellow Jackets with 13 points while Brennan Chatman had 12 points for New Iberia.

Carver (15-0) will play at Madison Prep Saturday at 7 p.m. in a rematch of heavyweights. New Iberia (14-6) will host Lafayette Christian Saturday at 7 p.m.

The Rams edged the Chargers 60-55 on Dec. 19. Madison Prep won five straight state championships between 2014-19 and reached the 3A semifinals a year ago while Carver reached the 4A semifinals in 2020.

Make it five straight wins for East Jefferson.

The Warriors downed Lakeshore 87-75 at home.

Fast-rising center Chris Flippin pumped in 26 points with nine rebounds and two blocks while two-sport star and point guard Arthur Oliver led the way with 22 points, five assists and four steals. Jeffery Landry had 16 points and eight rebounds. Tre Knighton added seven points and seven assists.

Gorgone led the Titans with 24 points, Foster had 15 points and Gardache finished with 12 points as Lakeshore made 11 three-pointers to stay close.

The surging Warriors (13-6) will host Franklinton Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. while Lakeshore (14-2) will host Pearl River Thursday at 7 p.m. in District 9-4A play.

In girls action, Warren Easton downed Zachary 56-39 in the MLK Classic.

Warren Easton led 15-9 after one quarter and 32-26 at halftime. It was 46-38 going to the final quarter.

Kameryn Washington led the Eagles with 14 points, Zacyria Dozier had 13 points for Warren Easton. Alissa O’Dell led the Broncos with 12 points.

Warren Easton (12-6) will host John Curtis Christian Wednesday at 6 p.m. while Zachary (15-7) will host White Castle Thursday at 6 p.m.

Pope John Paul II whipped Phoenix 53-35 at home.

The Jaguars led 13-12 after one quarter before expanding the lead go 24-14 at halftime. It was 41-20 going to the final quarter.

Youth was served for the Jaguars.

Outstanding freshman Mix Gex led Pope John Paul II with 22 points, sophomore Harley Steele scored 14 points and freshman Emerson Alonso had nine points.

Pope John Paul II (7-5) will travel to French Settlement this evening at 6 p.m. in District 9-2A action while the Spartans (8-3) will travel to West St. John Friday at 5:30 p.m.
