Baseball: St. Thomas Aquinas drops French Settlement, Newman handles Fisher

Area Prep Baseball Report for Wednesday, March 30

St. Thomas Aquinas opened District 10-2A play Tuesday with a convincing 13-1 win at home over French Settlement.

Southeastern Louisiana signee Dane Watts stole the show for St. Thomas Aquinas (15-7).

On the mound, Watts pitched four innings, allowing no earned runs on two hits and struck out six to get the win. At the plate, Watts was 3 for 3 with a home, triple, single and three RBI.

Nicholls State signee Jordan Trapani also homered for the Falcons, who banged out 15 hits total as French Settlement fell to 9-10 on the season.

The two teams will meet again Thursday at French Settlement at 6:30 p.m.

Newman downed Fisher 9-1 in the District 11-2A opener for both teams.

The Greenies broke the game open with six runs in the bottom of the second inning. Newman added three runs in the sixth inning before Fisher scored its lone run in the seventh inning.

Hugh Miller, Michael Baumer, Iv Guillot, Tucker Joseph and Grayson Gallinghouse each had an RBI in the big inning with Gallinghouse driving in a pair of runs.

Guillot and Jack Robert also had two RBI for the Greenies while Jack Currence had three RBI.

Watson Scriber picked up the win on the mound, going 5 1/3 shutout innings. Scriber allowed just two hits. He walked three and struck out 10.

Lane Creppel took the loss for the Gators while Bryce Thornton drove in the lone run for Fisher and he finished up on the mound as well.

Newman (9-9) travels to St. Stanislaus (MS) Saturday at 3 p.m. while Fisher (9-5) will host Booker T. Washington Friday at 5 p.m.
