Make it three straight wins for St. Charles Catholic.
In a showdown of contenders for state honors in their respective classes, the Comets whipped St. Thomas Aquinas 9-1 at Hammond Friday.
St. Charles Catholic, who came in fifth unofficially in the Division II power rankings, got another solid pitching performance from Kaile Levantino, who picked up the win. Joe Chiarella had two hits, including a home run and two RBI. Robby Gilbert had two hits, including a double and two RBI. Peyton Broussard had three hits and an RBI and TJ Lasseigne had a hit and an RBI for the Comets (14-4).
St. Charles Catholic returns to action today at home at 2 p.m. against Holy Cross, who just swept Archbishop Shaw in their Catholic League season opening series. The Falcons (13-5) will host Shady Springs (WV) Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Speaking of Archbishop Shaw, the Eagles trek to Kirsch-Rooney Stadium to take on rival Archbishop Rummel at 1 p.m. in District 9-5A action. You can listen to the game live on WGSO, 990 AM and at WGSO.com.
The Eagles (8-8, 0-2) are led offensively by Tyler Nichol and Jace Weileman. Nichol is batting .452 with eight RBI while Weileman is batting .400 with 10 RBI.
The Raiders (13-6, 0-2) are led by Jackson Dennies and Chandler Fields. Dennies is hitting .315 with a home run and 20 RBI while Fields is batting .315 with a home run and 14 RBI.
