Baseball: Riverside Academy outscores NOMMA, ESJ downs St. James

Area Prep Baseball Report for Thursday, Mar. 5

In Reserve, Riverside Academy outscored New Orleans Military & Maritime 13-6.

The Rebels broke it open early, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the first inning and with four runs in the second to take an insurmountable 11-0 lead.

NOMMA answered with four runs in the top of the third before Riverside answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame to make it 13-4. The Bulldogs scored two more in the top of the fifth to complete the scoring.

Gavin Vicknair had a pair of doubles and two RBI while Bryce Dragon and Andrew Jung each had two hits and two RBI. Devin Watson went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI and Skyler Edwards and Thomas Mazzella each had a hit and an RBI as part of a 13-hit attack.

Bryce Murden picked up the win, going four innings, allowing no earned runs on four hits. He walked two and struck out five. Vicknair pitched a scoreless fifth inning before play was stopped due to weather.

Riverside (3-3) won its second straight game and returns to action Friday, hosting Houma Christian at 4 p.m. NOMMA (0-2) returns to action today, hosting Lusher Charter at 4 p.m.

In another game shortened to five innings, East St. John went on the road and won 5-3 at St. James.

The Wildcats scored four runs in the top of the second inning and that proved decisive. St. James scored twice in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit to 4-2 and each team scored a run in the fifth inning to account for the final score.

Junior Marcus Jackson had a double and three RBI for East St. John while senior Calvin Gardner Jr. had a double and an RBI.

East St. John (2-3) returns to action today, hosting Mount Hermon at 3:30 p.m. while St. James (0-7) will continue its quest for a first win today at H.L. Bourgeois at 3:30 p.m.
