Baseball: Riverdale drops Country Day by run rule
Area Prep Baseball Report for Thursday, March 21
After a memorable season in 2018 in which the Rebels won a playoff game, Riverdale is trying to cement itself as a consistently solid baseball program.
The Rebels took another step Wednesday, whipping Country Day 13-2 in a game shortened to five innings by the mercy rule at Pontiff Playground.
Ryder Chriss and Casey Pittman each had three hits and two RBI to pace the Rebels attack. Alan Castro and Caleb Laird each produced a pair of hits for Riverdale (8-6). Chriss pitched a two-hitter, striking out five for the win. The Rebels put the game away with seven runs in the fifth inning. Three-sport star Justin Ibieta belted a two-run home run for the Cajuns.
Riverdale returns to action Saturday, on the road against a very good Lakeshore team in Mandeville while Country Day (2-3) is back in action today, hosting Fisher at 4:30 p.m. at Pontiff Playground.
Tonight, three-time defending Catholic League champion and two-time defending Division I state champion John Curtis Christian looks for a sweep of Archbishop Rummel as the 9-5A rivals meet at Mike Miley Stadium in Metairie at 7 p.m.
You can watch the game live at CrescentCitySports.com.
Curtis whipped Rummel 8-1 on Tuesday at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
