Area Prep Baseball Report for Thursday, April 18

It is a very good rivalry in all sports. The baseball version again revealed how good the rivalry is once again on Wednesday.

Riverside Academy came to New Orleans and edged Newman 8-7.

The Rebels scored a run in the top of the first inning before the Greenies tied it with a run in the bottom of the second inning. Riverside took a 2-1 lead with a run in the top of the fourth before Newman exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 6-2 lead. The Rebels tied it with four runs in the top of the fifth before Newman recaptured the lead with a run in the bottom of the fifth. Riverside tied it with a run in the sixth and won it with a run in the top of the seventh inning.

Patrick Boudreaux had three hits and two RBI while Mason Vicknair had two hits and two RBI to pace the Rebels’ 11-hit attack. Kelson Simon drove in a run and Dakota Hicks added a pair of hits for Riverside. Boudreaux picked up the win in relief, pitching two scoreless frames.

The Rebels (12-15) are scheduled to play today at 4:30 p.m. at East St. John, though that is unlikely with the severe weather forecast. Riverside will host Lusher Charter Friday at 4:30 p.m. while Newman (14-18) concludes its regular season Saturday at Northlake Christian at 1:30 p.m.

There is a very good chance that no game will be played in the area today, based on the very bad weather forecast for the entire metro area.
