Baseball Report: Riverdale wins district, Mandeville surprises St. Paul’s
Area Prep Baseball Report for Saturday, April 13
Make it five straight district championships for Riverdale.
The Rebels handled Carver 11-1 to clinch the District 10-4A championship.
It was the sixth straight win for the Rebels (15-8, 7-0). Sophomore Jonathan Glover picked up his first win, striking out 13 in five innings. David Oddo had two hits and three RBI to pace the Riverdale offense. The Rebels will play De La Salle Monday at 7 p.m. at Bonnabel Stadium.
Mandeville put a serious dent in any hope of St. Paul’s winning District 6-5A, surprising the Wolves 5-4 at Mandeville to split the two-game series.
The Skippers scored a run in the bottom of the first and added three in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead. The Wolves rallied with three runs in the top of the fifth and one in the top of the sixth to tie it 4-4 but Mandeville scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth.
Cole Cressend and Gabe Stockton each had a pair of hits while Tyler James drove in a run for the Skippers. William Duncan and Beau Neelis each had an RBI for St. Paul’s.
Mandeville (16-8, 6-6) will host Covington Monday at 6:30 p.m. while St. Paul’s (21-6, 9-3) will host Fontainebleau Monday at 6:30 p.m.
