Riverdale completed a very successful weekend at the Pearl River Tournament, downing Belle Chasse 7-2. Diego Zepeda was 3-for-4 with two RBI to pace the Rebel offense while Alan Castro picked up the victory. Riverdale (3-1) won all three games in the tournament, also defeating Archbishop Hannan and the host Cardinals. The Rebels return to action Tuesday against Haynes Academy.

At the Slidell City Tournament, Newman defeated Pope John Paul II 12-6 as two-sport star Martin Butcher, who had a great football season as the Greenies’ quarterback, drove in four runs. Newman (2-1) returns to action Tuesday, hosting Covington at 6:30 p.m. The Jaguars (0-4) also lost to Northshore 11-1.

The Panthers jumped on the Jaguars early with three runs in the bottom of the first inning, two in the second and two more in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Northshore (3-0) got three RBI from Branyan Bounds and Brayden Jobert while Walter Harris and Cole Cavallo each had a pair of hits to pace a 10-hit attack. Kraig Segrave picked up the win, recording five strikeouts. The Jaguars will return to action Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at Salmen.

Earlier, Northshore defeated Walker 5-3.

As was the case against Pope John Paul II, the Panthers started fast, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first and single runs in the second and third innings. They added a run in the fifth to make it 5-0 before the Wildcats rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh but fell short.

Hunter May had three hits and three RBI for Northshore (4-0) while Brett Sanchez pitched six strong innings, fanning eight to get the win.

The Panthers return to action, hosting Belle Chasse at 6:30 p.m. Walker (4-2) will host Catholic of New Iberia Tuesday at 5 p.m.
