Baseball Report: Mandeville handles Lutcher, 10-4

Area Prep Baseball Report for Friday, Feb. 22

At the St. Charles Catholic tournament in Lutcher, Mandeville bounced back from an opening game loss to a very good Central squad with a 10-4 victory over Lutcher.

The Skippers scored a run in the top of the first inning and added four in the top of the second to take a 5-0 lead. Mandeville added four more in the third and a run in the fourth to take a 10-0 lead.

The Bulldogs extended the game by scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth and added a run in the seventh inning to complete the scoring.

Junior Brandon Mooney had two hits and three RBI, Desmond Sams had a hit and two RBI while junior Gabe Stockton had two hits, including a home run to pace the Skipper attack. Brandon Benefield and Jake Laws each had an RBI.

Michael Cauble picked up the win for the Skippers, going four shutout innings, allowing just one hit and striking out six Bulldogs. Rhett Whitney took the loss for Lutcher, going two and two-thirds innings. He allowed nine runs (five earned) on five hits, walking three and striking out three. Taitan Levet went the rest of the way for Lutcher. Kyle St. Pierre doubled in a pair of runs for the Bulldogs, who committed four errors.

The Skippers (1-1) return to action today against Albany at 4 p.m. in the tournament while the Bulldogs (1-1) will next face host St. Charles Catholic Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
