District play in area high school baseball opens on many fronts today as well and continues at other locations.

That includes the District 9-5A matchup between defending Division I state champion John Curtis Christian and Archbishop Rummel at 4 p.m. at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium. You can watch the game live at CrescentCitySports.com.

Curtis split two regular season games with Rummel a year ago and shut out the Raiders 7-0 in the Division I semifinals.

In District 6-5A, Northshore entertains St. Paul’s at 6:30 in a battle of perhaps the two best teams in the league. The Panthers (15-1, 1-0) won at St. Paul’s 6-2 on Mar. 13.

In District 7-5A, it is the first showdown of perennial powers as Hahnville (10-9) opens district play at home against rival Destrehan (10-8). After a slow start, the Wildcats have won six straight games and plan to send LSU signee Landon Marceaux to the mound today. Marceaux struck out 17 in nine innings in a no-decision last year at Hahnville.

The two teams have split a pair of regular season matchups in each of the last two years.

In District 9-4A, Belle Chasse (9-8) carries a six-game win streak into its district opener against Warren Easton at Wesley Barrow Stadium at 6 p.m. The Cardinals edged Thomas Jefferson 2-1 Monday. The Eagles (11-4) have played well and are coming off of a win over Thibodaux.

In District 11-2A, defending Division III state champion Riverside Academy (5-7-1) opens league play at Westwego Playground against Patrick Taylor (5-9) at 4:30 p.m. Each team has lost three straight.
