Area Prep Baseball Report for Wednesday, April 17

Having already clinched a district title, Chalmette is closing its regular season in style.

Lane Dibartolo pitched a no-hitter as Chalmette blitzed West Jefferson 13-0 in a game shortened to five innings by the mercy rule in a District 8-5A contest in Harvey Tuesday. The Owls have now won 10 consecutive games.

Dibartolo was tremendous, not allowing a hit or a walk and he struck out nine Buccaneers in his gem. The Owls did make one error which prevented Dibartolo from having a perfect game.

The Owls scored three runs in the top of the first inning, four runs in the fourth and ended it with five runs in the fifth inning.

Colin Cure had two hits and four RBI while Alex Crews and Hunter Wheaton each had three hits and two RBI to lead Chalmette (13-12, 9-0). Bryce Catania and Zach Scariano each had a hit and two RBI for the Owls as part of a 12-hit attack. Michael Ludwig and Nick Powell each had a pair of hits.

Chalmette will host Central Catholic in a non-district contest today at 5:30 p.m. at Noel Suarez Stadium while West Jefferson (7-8, 3-6) will close out with a rematch at Chalmette Thursday at 5 p.m.

Today at 4 p.m., the one of the best rivalries in Louisiana resumes as Hahnville hosts Destrehan with the District 7-5A title on the line. You can watch the game live at CrescentCitySports.com.

The Tigers blanked the Wildcats 10-0 on Monday to give themselves a chance at sharing the league title. Hahnville (13-16, 9-2) has won 11 of its last 14 games while Destrehan (20-9, 10-1) can win the district championship outright with a victory.

Max Farrell leads the Tiger offense with a .355 average with one home run and 15 RBI while David Bernard is hitting .318 with 22 RBI. Max Jacob tops the Wildcat offense, batting .341 with 17 RBI while Nathan Rhodes is batting .289 with 14 RBI.
