Prep Baseball Playoff Report for Friday, April 21

No. 13 Archbishop Rummel advanced easily to the regional round with 14-1 in four and a half innings and 5-0 in the second game.

In the first contest, the Raiders banged out 14 hits, scoring six runs in the bottom of the first and eight in the third inning.

Sophomore Gavin Kennedy led the way with two hits and four RBI. Tulane commit Evan Burg had two hits, two RBI and scored twice, Louisiana Tech commit Gavin Nix had a hit and two RBI, LSU commit Mikey Ryan had two hits and scored twice, Tulane commit Giancarlo Arencibia had two hits, including a triple and an RBI, Central Alabama commit Rhett Centanni had a hit and an RBI and Brogan Blum drove in a run.

Central Alabama commit Brock Bullinger got it done on the mound and the plate. Bullinger went the distance, allowing an unearned run on two hits. He walked no one and struck out. Bullinger also had two hits and an RBI. Ozzie Welch took the loss for Ben Franklin.

In game two, the story was Arencibia, who pitched a no-hitter. Arencibia walked four and struck out 12, using 108 pitches.

Centanni tripled, doubled and drove in two runs while Nix was 2 for 2 with an RBI. Isaac Jabaley took the loss for the Falcons (14-13).

Rummel (21-14) advances to the regional round to play at No. 4 Captain Shreve next weekend.

Elsewhere in Select Division I, No. 15 Carencro drilled No. 18 Riverdale 13-0 in game one of that series. Game two is Saturday at noon with game three, if necessary, to follow.

No. 19 St. Augustine (11-23) defeated District 9-5A rival Holy Cross 9-6 in game one of their best-of-three series at Tiger Park.

Two-sport star Dawson Simmons had two hits and three RBI while Howard Bachus had a hit and two RBI. Yeldin Castillo had two hits and an RBI.

C.J. Cornelius picked up the win, allowing just three earned runs in a complete game effort. He walked three and struck out two.

Luca Saltaformaggio belted a 2-run homer for Holy Cross (14-16-1) while Ross Klein had two hits and two RBI. Chris Sercovich added two hits and stole a base. Holy Cross used four pitchers with Cole Killian took the loss for the Tigers.

The two teams, who split their regular season series, will meet in game two Friday at 4:30 p.m. at Tiger Park.

In Select Division II action Friday, No. 16 Douglass plays host to No. 17 David Thibodaux at 4 p.m. with game two at 7 p.m. at Wesley Barrow Stadium.

No. 14 Archbishop Hannan blitzed No. 19 Livingston Collegiate 17-0 in game one of that series. Game two is Friday at 5 p.m. with a third game, if necessary, to follow.

In Select Division III, No. 16 Houma Christian defeated No. 17 Haynes Academy 5-1. Game two is in Houma Friday at 4 p.m. with game three, if needed, on Saturday.

No. 14 Newman entertains No. 19 Loyola Prep at 7 p.m. Friday at Avenger Field.

No. 15 Glenmora easily defeated No. 18 Country Day 14-3. Game two is Saturday at 2 p.m. with game three, if needed, to follow.

In Non-Select Division I, No. 17 Fontainebleau defeated No. 16 Hahnville 6-2 (recap).

No. 14 Destrehan plays host to No. 19 Ruston at 4 p.m. Friday in game one of that series.

No. 21 Mandeville scored a big 3-2 victory at No. 12 Dutchtown.

The Skippers look to win the series Friday at 6:30 p.m. in game two.

No. 23 Covington plays at No. 10 Haughton in game one at 6 p.m. Friday.

No. 24 Chalmette plays game one at No. 9 Parkway Friday at 6 p.m.

In Non-Select Division II, No. 13 West Feliciana edged No. 20 Loranger 2-1. Game two is Friday at 6 p.m. with game three, if necessary, to be played Saturday.

No. 19 Franklinton won at No. 14 Rayne 8-3. Game two is Saturday at 11 a.m. with game three, if necessary, to follow.

No. 10 Grant advanced, downing No. 23 Morgan City 7-6 and 20-1.

No. 15 Kaplan downed No. 18 Albany 10-5. Game two is Friday at 6 p.m. with game three, if needed, set for Saturday at 1 p.m.

In Division III Non-Select, No. 16 St. James hosts No. 17 Springfield in game one Friday at 6 p.m.

No. 12 Port Barre downed No. 21 Patterson 9-1 in game one. The two teams will meet again Saturday at 1 p.m. with game three, if needed, to follow.

No. 20 Pine heads to No. 13 Red River Friday at 3:30 p.m. with game two to follow.

No. 10 Jena edged No. 23 Indepdence 2-1. Game two is Saturday at 1 p.m. with game three, if necessary, to follow

No. 15 Many snuck by No. 18 Jewel Sumner 1-0 in game one. Game two is Saturday at 1 p.m. with game three, if necessary, to follow.

In Non-Select Division IV, No. 16 French Settlement defeated No. 17 Lake Arthur 7-3. Game two is Friday.
