Area Prep Baseball Report for Thursday, Mar. 12

A pair of top north shore teams hooked up in Slidell Wednesday and Lakeshore downed Northshore 6-2.

Chris Olivier drove in two runs while Norris McClure had two hits and an RBI for the Titans, who had five hits.

Lakeshore jumped on top, scoring two unearned runs in the bottom of the first inning on an error.

Northshore cut the deficit to 2-1 in the top of the second inning on an infield hit by Carson Lore. The Panthers got even in the bottom of the fourth as Bryce Miller plated a run on a bunt to even the game 2-2.

The Titans took the lead for good with two runs in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI single by McClure to make it 3-2 while another error allowed another run to make it 4-2.

Lakeshore put the game away with two runs in the top of the seventh inning, both on errors by Northshore.

The Panthers, who had five hits, committed four errors.

Senior Christian Westcott, who was the Gatorade prep football Player of the Year and Mr. Football in Louisiana was brilliant, going the distance and allowing no earned runs on five hits. He walked two and struck out five, using just 90 pitches to pick up the victory. Westcott has signed to play football and baseball at Southeastern Louisiana.

Dillon Sabathe started and absorbed the loss for the Panthers, going five innings and allowing just one earned run on four hits. Sabathe walked two and struck out three.

Lakeshore (8-3-1) returns to action Friday, hosting Fontainebleau at 3 p.m. while Northshore (6-5) returns to action Thursday at Zachary at 6 p.m.
