Baseball: Jesuit and Country Day remain unbeaten, John Curtis victorious

Jesuit enjoyed a good Saturday in the WGNO Classic, remaining unbeaten with a pair of victories.

The Blue Jays shutout Hahnville 10-0 in five innings by the mercy rule.

Jesuit jumped on Hahnville with four runs in the bottom of the second inning. Joel Terry had an RBI single, Loupe 2-run triple, Giovanni Licciardi RBI double and it was 4-0.

Jesuit broke it open with five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Hayden Morris had an RBI before Collin Loupe belted a 3-run home run to make it 8-0. Hess added an RBI single and it was 9-0.

The Blue Jays ended it with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning on a passed ball.

Michael King pitched a complete game shutout, striking out three.

In the victory over Fontainebleau, Jesuit jumped on top early with a pair of runs in the the first inning on an RBI single by Tripp Haddad and a passed ball and it was 2-0.

Jesuit broke it open with seven runs in the second inning with the big blow being a base-clearing triple by Haddad and it was 9-0.

Fontainebleau battled back with two runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth inning to make it 9-4.

The Blue Jays extended the lead to 10-4, scoring a run on a wild pitch in the sixth inning before the Bulldogs added a run in the seventh inning to close out the scoring.

Ryan Porche pitched five innings to pick up the win while Gates Barre pitched the final two innings.

Jesuit (5-0) returns to action Tuesday, hosting Warren Easton at 4:30 p.m.

Country Day is also undefeated after a 19-6 victory over Bonnabel at Pontiff Playground.

Dylan Simmons went 3-for-4 with a pair of triples, a single and two RBI while Dawson Simmons had two triples and four RBI to pace the Cajuns. Lance Hebert was 2-for-2 with two RBI and Sinnot Bland had two hits and an RBI.

Hebert and Owen Marchal did not allow a hit on the mound but issued 12 walks and hit three batters which resulted in Bruin runs.

Country Day (3-0) returns to action Monday against Ben Franklin at 5 p.m. at Pontiff Playground.

John Curtis Christian handled Albany 10-3 in the Comet Classic at LaPlace.

The Patriots took a 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the second and made it 2-0 with a run in the third. The lead grew to 4-0 in the top of the fourth and 6-0 in the top of the fifth. The Hornets scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth to extend the game before Curtis scored three runs in the top of the sixth and one in the seventh. Albany added a run in the sixth inning.

Reggie Bergeron had three hits and an RBI while Brad Chaisson belted a 3-run home run to pace the Patriots offensively. Mason Despaux had a triple, a single and and an RBI.

Richard Woodruff picked up the win, going four and a third innings, allowing two runs on two hits. He walked three and struck out three. Austin Ackel finished up on the mound, allowing one run on four hits, walking two while fanning three batters.

The Patriots (5-1) will host St. Paul’s at 7 p.m. Monday at Mike Miley Stadium while Albany (0-4) will play at French Settlement at 5 p.m. Monday.
