Baseball: De La Salle, Cook edge John Curtis, next face Shaw tonight on WGSO 990 AM
Area Prep Baseball Report for Friday, Mar. 15
In the Pat O’Shea Pelican Cup tournament, two strong teams hooked up in what turned out to be an excellent game Thursday night at Mike Miley Stadium.
In an outstanding pitcher’s dual, Cory Cook struck out nine and allowed just one hit while UL-Lafayette commit Dax Ford pitched five strong innings, allowing just the one run and struck out 13, taking a tough luck loss. Cook was an Class 3A all-state performer a year ago.
Brayden Bryson, Coedy Fonseca and Gavin Freeman had the hits for the Cavaliers, who scratched across an unearned run in the fifth inning to provide the margin of victory. The Patriots committed three errors in the game.
De La Salle (7-3) returns to action this evening against Archbishop Shaw at 7:30 p.m. at Winterscheidt Stadium. You can listen to the game live on WGSO, 990 AM and at WGSO.com. John Curtis will host Vandebilt Catholic at 7 p.m. at Mike Miley Stadium.
