Baseball: Bonnabel edges St. Martin’s Episcopal; Fisher holds off St. Aug to stay unbeaten

At Bonnabel Stadium, the Bonnabel Bruins edged St. Martin’s Episcopal 4-3.
Each team scored a run in the first inning before St. Martin’s scored a run in the top of the third to take a 2-1 lead. Bonnabel tied it with a run in the bottom of the fourth but the Saints answered with a run in the top of the fifth to take a 3-2 lead. The Bruins won it by scoring two in the bottom of the fifth and held on for the victory.
Peralta delivered the game-winning hit with an RBI single to cap the two-run rally for Bonnabel in the fifth inning after Caminero had doubled home the tying run.
Young had two hits and scored a run for Bonnabel while Eugene had a hit and an RBI for the Bruins. Nicholas Manning led the St. Martin’s attack with two hits and two RBI while Gavin Sperandeo had two hits and scored twice for the Saints.
Bonnabel overcame four errors while St. Martin’s committed three errors.
Flores got the win, going five and a third innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on eight hits. He walked three and struck out five, using 98 pitches. Caminero got the save, going the final one and two-thirds innings, allowing no hits and striking out four.
Beau Lawrence took the loss in relief, pitching the final two innings, allowing two runs on three hits. Wyatt Powell started for the Saints, going three and a third innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits, striking out seven. Patrick Smith followed, going two thirds of an inning, allowing one hit.
The win was the third straight for Bonnabel (4-2). The Bruins will host Karr Monday at 6 p.m.
St. Martin’s (2-4) will host Patrick Taylor next Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Mike Miley Stadium.
In the Higgins Tournament on the West Bank, Fisher remained unbeaten, holding off St. Augustine 10-8.
The Gators broke a scoreless tie with five runs in the top of the fourth inning before the Purple Knights answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Fisher scored four in the top of the fifth to take a 9-1 lead but St. Aug answered with five runs in the bottom of the fifth and it was 9-6. The Gators scored a run in the top of the sixth to make it 10-6 before the Purple Knights rallied with two runs in the bottom of the seventh but it was not enough.
Trey Usey had two hits and three RBI while Maddox Perrin had a hit and three RBI to lead Fisher. Matthew Creppel added two hits and an RBI while Tyler Landry and Logan Wade each added an RBI.
Usey pitched five innings to pick up the win, allowing six runs on five hits. He walked three and struck out nine, using 97 pitches. Nijal Johnson took the loss in relief for St. Augustine as the Purple Knights used four pitchers. Emari Evans had three hits, including a double and three RBI while Kenya Huggins homered and drove in three runs for St. Aug. Jeffrey Duroncelay had a hit and an RBI while Kabrel Johnson had two hits for the Purple Knights.
Fisher (5-0) will travel to Grace King Tuesday at 4 p.m. while St. Augustine (2-4) plays South Plaquemines today at Oakdale Playground at 3:45 p.m.
