Baby Cakes stay hot, beat Colorado Springs, 8-4, in 11 innings

Colorado Springs – The New Orleans Baby Cakes erupted for four runs in the top of the 11th inning and defeated the Colorado Springs Sky Sox for the third consecutive game with an 8-4 victory.

New Orleans secured its second series win of the season on the road.

Eury Perez dropped a triple into shallow right center field to open up the 11th and scored on a Peter Mooney single to give the ‘Cakes a 5-4 lead. Moises Sierra singled before Ramon Cabrera blasted the three run home run to provide the final margin.

Tayron Guerrero pitched two innings of relief to earn the win for the Baby Cakes. Tristan Archer took the loss for the Sky Sox allowing four runs.

The Cakes matched a season high with 19 hits, seven of which came in the 11th inning. Mooney, Cal Towey and Christian Colon led New Orleans with three-hit performances.

New Orleans (48-71) will go for its first sweep of the season on Monday afternoon.

GAME NOTES: The 19 hits matches a season high set on June 10 at Omaha. The game was delayed for one hour and thirty nine minutes in the fifth inning, it was the eighth delay in the last ten days for the ‘Cakes.

UPCOMING: The ‘Cakes will wrap-up a four game series at Colorado Springs Monday at 1:30 p.m. New Orleans will start RHP William Cuevas against TBA.
