Baby Cakes spilt double dip in Iowa

DES MOINES – The New Orleans Baby Cakes and Iowa Cubs spilt a doubleheader on Thursday. New Orleans won the first contest 7-0 and dropped a rain-shortened second game 5-2.

In game one, New Orleans got three home runs and a strong starting pitching performance from Hector Noesi. He worked six shutout innings and allowed three hits in his fourth win of the season. The Baby Cakes got a two run single from Lewis Brinson in the first inning and added home runs from Yadiel Rivera, Monte Harrison and Brinson in the 7-0 victory.

New Orleans got a pair of first inning runs in the night-cap with an RBI double from JT Riddle and an RBI from Austin Dean. Iowa’s Dixon Machado drilled a go-ahead grand slam in the fourth inning to give the Cubs a 5-2 lead.

The heavy rain hit and the game went to a delay after the top of fifth inning and called an official game after a :35 delay.

The third game of the series is Friday at 7:08 p.m. New Orleans will start Elieser Hernandez on the mound.
