A host of area teams open LHSAA state softball playoff action today.

In Class 5A, No. 32 Slidell has a tall task at top seed West Monroe. No. 25 Fontainebleau, playing at Central. No. 26 Mandeville travels to No. 7 Pineville and No. 18 Ponchatoula is at No. 15 Alexandria.

In a pair of matchups featuring area teams, No. 21 Destrehan heads across the Lake to battle No. 12 Northshore at 4 p.m. while No. 23 Chalmette plays at No. 10 Hahnville at 3:30 p.m.

In Class 4A, No. 32 Warren Easton makes a long trip to No. 1 North DeSoto while No. 30 Karr heads to No. 3 Tioga. No. 26 McMain is at No. 7 Eunice at 5:30 p.m.

No. 6 Franklinton hosts No. 27 Westgate at 5 p.m. while No. 11 Lakeshore will host No. 22 Livonia at 4 p.m. No. 10 Belle Chasse will entertain No. 23 Morgan City at 4 p.m. No. 15 Pearl River hosts No. 18 Huntington at 4 p.m.

In Class 3A, No. 19 Kenner Discovery is at No. 14 Berwick, No. 20 Albany heads to No. 13 Union Parish, No. 23 Jewel Sumner travels to No. 10 North Webster, No. 24 St. James plays at No. 9 Brusly and No. 28 Loranger is at No. 5 Buckeye.

No. 6 Lutcher is at home, welcoming Mansfield.

In Class 2A, No. 17 Springfield plays at No. 16 Avoyelles Public Charter while No. 18 South Plaquemines makes a long trip to No. 15 Red River.

No. 2 Doyle entertains No. 31 Oakdale at 4:30 p.m. at the Sports Plex while 12 French Settlement hosts No. 21 Delcambre at 6 p.m.

No. 19 Fisher heads to No. 14 Pine at 5:30 p.m.

In Class B, No. 23 Mount Hermon plays at No. 10 Choudrant while No. 24 Maurepas is at No. 9 Anacoco.

In Division I, No. 3 Mount Carmel Academy plays host to No. 6 Byrd at 4:30 p.m. at Muss Bertolino Playground.

In Division II, No. 3 Haynes Academy squares off with No. 14 Cabrini at 6 p.m. at the JPRD Complex in Metairie and No. 10 Patrick Taylor plays at No. 7 Academy of Our Lady at 4:30 p.m.
