Ben Franklin, Newman girls play to tie

For one half, it looked like Newman would handle Ben Franklin easily in a girls soccer matchup of outstanding teams Saturday.

The Greenies controlled play, taking a 2-0 lead at halftime on goals by Anne Chawla and Allie Nowak.

Then, the Falcons awakened as Anna Mobley scored less than 10 minutes into the second half to cut the deficit to 2-1 before Audry Mann tied it with a goal to produce the draw.

Ben Franklin (11-1-1) had won seven straight matches. The Falcons, who are fourth in the most recent LHSAA Division II power rankings, hit the road on Monday to play at Northlake Christian at 11 a.m. while the Greenies (3-4-3), ninth in the most recent Division IV power rankings, will take on McGehee Tuesday at 5 p.m.
