A pair of teams with multiple state championships in the past decade, along with another team that has played in three state title games most recently, begin area team scrimmages Wednesday.

John Curtis Christian, which has captured 26 state titles, will travel to Hunter Stadium to battle an improved St. Paul’s team at 5 p.m. Patriots head coach J.T. Curtis is just two wins away from the magical 600 for his career while Ken Sears has an experienced squad.

Archbishop Rummel, which has won three state championships since 2012, will host an extremely talented Ponchatoula squad at 5 p.m. at Joe Yenni Stadium. The Raiders are young but always dangerous under Nick Monica while Hank Tierney has his best team since he has been with the Green Wave.

De La Salle, which has played in state championship games in three of the last four years, travels to Hoss Memtsas Stadium to face West Jefferson at 5:30 p.m. in an intriguing matchup as De La Salle graduate Graham Jarrott is in his first year at his alma mater while Buccaneers coach Willie Brooks is a De La Salle graduate as well and previously worked as an assistant coach with the Cavaliers.

In other Wednesday matchups, Abramson Sci Academy, which did not play last season, will travel to Muss Bertolino Stadium to play a rising program in Kenner Discovery at 5:30 p.m.

New football program M.L. King Charter will face John F. Kennedy and coach Lynarise Elpheage at 5 p.m. at Pan American Stadium.

Salmen makes the trip to St. Bernard Parish to battle Chalmette at Bobby Nuss Stadium and John F. Kennedy faces M.L. King Charter at 5 p.m. at Pan American Stadium.
