Archbishop Shaw whips John Curtis in dual
After finishing second in the state in Division II in 2022, Archbishop Shaw was faced with replacing a host of outstanding wrestlers this season, including a trio of state champions in Glenn Price, Jude Monaco and Nigel Whitehead.
It has been a growing process but the Eagles are perhaps peaking at the right time to make a title run in a new class in Division III state title in 2023.
Shaw tuned up for the state championships in Bossier City next weekend with a convincing 59-15 victory over John Curtis Christian Wednesday evening.
The Eagles won eight of the 10 matches contested.
Winning by fall for Shaw were Jaiden Jamison (106), Hayden Tassin (126), Giovani Malta (132), Carson Dalton (138), Mason Wilson (170), James Nero (195) and Carter Newsham (285).
Scoring a pin for the Patriots was Zachary Drake (220).
In the best match of the night, Lane Lecron of John Curtis edged Brandon Crespo of Shaw 11-10 at 182 pounds.
