Archbishop Hannan High School is pleased to announce the hiring of Jon Lanter as head girls basketball coach.

Lanter – who is in his first year at Archbishop Hannan – teaches in the science department and coaches football. He was also the assistant boys basketball coach this year under head coach Errol Gauff.

He comes with 10 years of basketball coaching experience including two years within the Illinois women’s basketball program, two years as an assistant coach for Christian Brothers High School in Tennessee and four years at Germantown High School in Memphis Tennessee – two of which he was the head boys’ basketball coach.

“I am excited about the opportunity to build upon the athletic success at Hannan,” Lanter said. “We have state championship programs in volleyball and softball, and the goal is to build our girls basketball program to that level.”

Archbishop Hannan High School has appeared in the playoffs for the last six years, including a run to the quarterfinals in 2017.

Athletic Director Michael Perniciaro said the athletic department was excited to see Lanter take charge of the program.

“His background speaks for itself with coaching experience in both girls and boys,” Perniciaro said. “We believe his experience is going to help our girls basketball program exponentially.”

Archbishop Hannan High School Head of School Chad Barwick said the school was lucky to have someone with Lanter’s experience on staff.

“’Doctor’ Lanter has been a great addition here at Archbishop Hannan High School,” Barwick said. “He is all in, and we look forward to him continuing to have a positive influence on our Hawks.”
