RUSTON – Louisiana Tech head coach Sonny Cumbie has announced the addition of Anthony Mauro as the Director of Player Personnel for the Bulldog football staff.

Mauro arrives in Ruston after spending the previous year at Fresno State where he served as the director of scouting.

“We are excited to bring Anthony Mauro back to our staff,” said Cumbie. “He’s an energetic worker that is very knowledgeable and creative. Anthony has a great mind and loves to work. He is good at talent evaluation and a team player. We are thrilled to have his energy and enthusiasm for recruiting and personnel. It is great to have Anthony back with us.”

In his role at Fresno State, Mauro managed and the Bulldogs’ recruiting efforts, organizing on-campus visits, evaluating prospects and navigating the NCAA Transfer Portal to fill roster needs. During his stint in Fresno, he was responsible for the Bulldogs achieving the top recruiting class in the Mountain West and second-best recruiting class among all Group of Five schools according to 247 Sports in 2022.

Mauro is no stranger to Ruston, having served as the assistant director of recruiting for LA Tech from 2021-22. From 2019-2021 he served as an assistant linebackers coach at McNeese State.

“I am beyond grateful for the opportunity Coach Cumbie has granted me to return to Louisiana Tech as the Director of Player Personnel,” said Mauro. “The staff, the university, and the city of Ruston have welcomed me back with open arms and southern hospitality at its finest. I’m excited to get to work to do everything I can to help us win. I’m eager to build upon my relationships with the student-athletes and our community. It’s truly a dream come true to have this opportunity. I look forward to serving the student-athletes, the university, and the city of Ruston.”

Mauro was an undergraduate assistant coach at Iowa from 2014-2018. He assisted in compiling statistical information, gathering information on opponents and recruits and assisted in the day-to-day operations of the football program. He also assisted with Iowa football camps and coaching clinics.

In addition, Mauro contributed and helped develop three NFL draftees at the tight end position in NFL pro-bowler George Kittle, pro-bowler T.J. Hockenson and all-rookie Noah Fant.

Mauro earned his bachelor’s degree in Sports Management from Iowa in 2018.
