Video: Amite’s Sopsher to Alabama, Lee to LSU in signing day drama
A pair of 4 star prospects out of Amite went to SEC West rivals in parting football ways Wednesday.
Wide receiver Devonta Lee signed with in-state LSU while defensive tackle Ishmael Sopsher chose Alabama. Lee and Sopsher announced their decisions live on ESPN2 as part of Wednesday’s national signing day coverage
Even the Governor of Louisiana sent a shout-out to Lee for staying in-state to play college football.
Hold that Tiger! Congrats to Amite's own Devonta Lee on signing to play football with LSU! Donna and I are looking forward to the many great things you will do on and off the field for #LSU and Louisiana. #TangiProud #NationalSigningDay pic.twitter.com/I8uP9byums

Lee is talented enough to play wide receiver or cornerback at the next level.
In the final days and weeks leading up to his decision, Sopsher was considered a lean to the Crimson Tide by many observers so his announcement was not a big surprise.
However the loss of Sopsher was not the only one on the defensive line Wednesday for the Tigers. LSU target Charles Moore, a 4-star defensive end from Louisville, Mississippi, chose Auburn. The former Mississippi State commitment went on an official visit to LSU last weekend, but Moore inked with the other SEC West Tigers.
One key recruiting win for LSU came when Moultrie (Ga.) cornerback Jay Ward inked with the Tigers over Kentucky.
In all, LSU ended up with the full 25 signees allowed for their 2019 class with six on Wednesday. Desmond Little, a 6-foot-5 outside linebacker from Mobile, took the final spot in the class (JUCO OLB/DE Soni Fonua, Ruston TE/OL Ray Parker and Memphis prep CB Maurice Hampton were the others).
