John Curtis Christian School is pleased to announce the hiring of Alyxandra Carter as the new head volleyball coach. JCCS didn’t have to look far to find its next coach. Coach Alyx, who took on the role as assistant last season, will replace Juli Hartley who retired after a 36-year career last week.

Carter began her coaching career right out of college as head coach of Beechwood High School in Fort Mitchell, KY and later as an assistant Newport Central Catholic School. She also coached for the Northern Kentucky Youth Volleyball Club and Northern Kentucky Junior Volleyball. Upon moving to New Orleans a year ago, she served as an assistant at JCCS and is currently coaching for the NOLA Volleyball club.

Carter stated, “I could not be more humbled, excited, and blessed to be named as the head Volleyball Coach at John Curtis Christian. I look forward to building on the strong foundation that Curtis has for their student-athletes and continuing their winning tradition.”

JCCS Girls Athletic Director Cindy Taix added, “We are excited to have Alyx on our staff. She brings enthusiasm and quality experience as the leader of our volleyball program. I know she will be a great role model for our girls both on and off the court. I have no doubt that the program will continue to be successful under her leadership.”

Carter played for Jacksonville State University from 2009-2012. While at JSU, Carter was named to the OVC All-Newcomer Team her Freshman year, and played in two NCAA tournaments. She played as a defensive specialist and outside hitter. Coach Alyx strives to teach girls advanced skills that can be used at the next playing level, while teaching life lessons that can be used on and off the court.

Carter added, “Having the opportunity to have spent a year as an assistant at John Curtis has helped me get a firm grasp on the core values of the program and school, as well as getting to know the players. Already knowing the program and the girls helps me to coach and motivate each player in their personal capacity.”

Alyx Carter is married to Justin Carter and they have two daughters, Skylar and Athena.
