ASH track teamThe Allstate Sugar Bowl wrapped up its fourth year as the title sponsor of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association this past weekend with the Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Baseball Championships in Sulphur, La. Over those four years, the Bowl has had the opportunity to recognize 504 team champions from 157 different schools.

In 2017-18 alone, the Bowl honored 141 teams from 93 different schools. Episcopal School of Acadiana, John Curtis Christian School, Lafayette Christian High School and Zachary High School each earned four state championships to lead the state. Nine other schools earned three state titles this year, including Christ Episcopal, Isidore Newman and Sacred Heart from the New Orleans area.

In addition to team champions, many individuals are crowned as Louisiana state champions throughout the year. The 2018 Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships earlier this month saw one of the most memorable individual performances in history. Armand Duplantis, a senior at Lafayette High School, pole vaulted a height of 19-5.5 in the Class 5A championship. That mark broke his own world junior record and it was also the best mark ever for an American (of any age). For reference, the last NCAA champion in the pole vault cleared 18-4.5.

The 85th Allstate Sugar Bowl Football Classic, featuring top teams from the Big 12 and the SEC, will be played on January 1, 2019. In addition to football, the Sugar Bowl Committee annually invests over $1.6 million into the community through the hosting and sponsorship of sporting events, awards and clinics. Through these efforts, the organization supports and honors nearly 100,000 student-athletes each year, while injecting over $2.5 billion into the local economy in the last decade.
